Women in Resistance

2.03.2005, 8.45 pm, ARTE

A Documentary by Anja Klabunde

Germany 1933. The Nazis used the burning of the Reichstag to denounce a communist conspiracy and to stop their opponents. Women, who were already activists or whose private lives were affected by this, enter the active resistance. In France, women are also engaged in the resistance networks. In both countries, the last survivors tell the tale of this fight. When committing themselves to the fight against the Nazi regime, these women knew they were risking their lives. But “when we’re young we always think nothing can happen to us. And then we no longer had a choice, we realised very quickly that Hitler wanted war, we saw our brothers and fathers arrested, tortured. When we said goodbye to someone we never knew whether we would see them again.”
