The history of beer and the secrets of beer-making is considered an art by amateurs. Making its first appearance in Persia 6000 years ago, beer was invented by women. It was then modified over the past millennium in Europe thanks to the research of monks. Today scientists analyse its molecular structure and denounce the standardisation of flavour of this ancestral drink as a result of mass production. While making this documentary, we discovered the beer barrels – of a cloister, the Weihenstephan Beer University and the monastery of Trappist monks in Rochefort, Belgium.
